Welcome to The African Parent a storytelling space, support circle, and cultural home for African parents everywhere.
Whether you’re raising toddlers in Nairobi, teens in London, or navigating motherhood in the diaspora with one foot in tradition and the other in modern parenting books, this space was created with you in mind.
Why We’re Here
Most of us grew up in homes where love was loud, discipline louder, and emotional expression was something you figured out after 30.
We were raised by the best and sometimes, the most overwhelmed.
Now, we’re parenting a new generation.
One that asks “why?”
One that challenges norms.
One that needs us to lead with both culture and compassion.
But no one handed us a map. That’s where this space comes in.
What We Do Here
At The African Parent, we:
Unpack the joys and challenges of raising children in African and diasporic contexts
Break generational cycles (with grace and grit)
Share tools for discipline, emotional intelligence, cultural pride, and healing
Explore what it means to be an African parent in a modern world without losing the wisdom of where we come from
Expect heartfelt stories, practical tips, hard truths, soft landings, and the occasional sprinkle of humour (because African parenting is comedy sometimes).
Who This Is For
This space is for you if:
You want to parent with intention, not just instinct
You love your culture, but want to break unhealthy patterns
You believe in raising children who are confident, rooted, and emotionally secure
You’ve ever said “I’m never doing that to my child”... and then accidentally did
We don’t do shame here. We do learning, unlearning, and growing together.
Our Community
We're a village of parents across Africa and the diaspora, raising children between languages, expectations, countries, and generations.
This is not just a blog.
It’s a movement.
It’s a return to ourselves.
It’s a celebration of where we come from and where our children are going.
Thanks for being here.
You are seen. You are supported. You are part of something bigger.
Welcome home, African Parent.
